Lights Please!
I had a voice mail left for me this morning letting me know that the electricity was turned off, the oil delivery was cancelled and the garbage pickup was no more. Wow. At least she left me a message. Too bad she didn’t tell the tenant that she was renting to that she was doing any of this.
You know, if I remember correctly - the police officer, who was called the prior week when the ex wife broke into the tenant’s apartment, told my ex that with tenants rights - you cannot shut off the electricity and you cannot break into the apartment. The tenant was given the option to press charges that afternoon, but begrudgingly decided not to because my kids had just arrived at the house and she didn’t want to do it in front of them. The police let my ex off with a warning.
I don’t think the tenant will be as forgiving this time and I would suspect that someone might be getting a phone call or possibly a visit soon to discuss the actions that took place. Can anyone say “pressing charges?”
I called to have the electricity put back on as soon as I heard the message, but was told that the earliest might be Monday. MIGHT BE MONDAY! IT’S ONLY THURSDAY! I told them that they couldn’t do this. They should never have shut off the electricity in the first place. There is someone in the house and they need the electricity on. They told me they left a notice 3 days ago on the door stating that it would be shutoff in 3 days if no one called to cancel. My ex made sure no one saw that notice. There is nothing we can do tonight, but hopefully things will be brighter tomorrow. ![]()
